Are you about to give birth to your first baby? It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? You are getting bombarded from all sides about what you should and should not do when you bring this baby home. What you should or should not buy for it, should or should not feed it…oy vey! Too much!
Let’s start simple. Not too much to take in, but here are some basics that are a really easy starting point to get your baby off to a healthier, greener life. It is so important that these little babies get the right start, and minimizing the amount of chemicals and plastics they are exposed to is vital. Little changes do add up, for better or for worse.
I want to add that baby bottles made from glass are the best first choice for feedings AFTER breast feeding. No need to leech plastic toxins into our babies through plastic baby bottles.
Today I’m featuring a guest post from Lauren Dzuris on the subject.
Let’s kick off the week with a guest post by Alisa Gilbert on being eco-friendly, not an eco-snob. You know who you are. We know who you are.

It seems that we have a lot to learn when it comes to convincing the masses that going green is a worthy lifestyle change. After all, despite being barraged by numerous irrefutable facts on the benefits of switching to man-powered or public transportation, buying organic produce, using reusable shopping bags, and reducing waste in general, a great deal of the public still will not integrate green practices into their own lives. The blame here may not actually lie with materialism and laziness, but rather with the green movement itself or in particular, with the eco-snobbery associated with the green movement’s most outspoken advocates.
This is a repost, here is the original post from December 2009. I have edited it to reflect where we are now with all of our stuff.
“A house is just a place to keep your stuff while you go out and get more stuff.”
George Carlin.
Stuff. It fills our lives right up to the edge. Think about all the stuff you have. Especially as a parent. You have the stuff you need and then there is the rest of it. We are so guilty of it, and by we I mean me and my husband. We aren’t the type to just shop and fill our spaces, but when you have children, and you have friends & family, stuff just flows your way. We have a house filled with stuff and we have a barn filled with stuff. Stuff we need and stuff we don’t. But we have gotten better about weeding through it all over the past few years, whittling it down. Making donations twice a year. But it can take over your life if you let it.
Today I’d like you to meet Anastacia Andrade, another greenie mom who I have connected with on my Facebook fan page. I invited her to guest post today about a topic she is passionate about – composting and recycling. Reusing. All that anti-trash stuff! Thanks for your submission, Anastacia!

Now that I’m back from my extended stay with family in Germany, I’d like to share with everyone some of the greener aspects of the German lifestyle that I would love to see here in the United States.
Let’s start with recycling!
