So I’ve been here for a year. What a year! I’ve shared so much, I’ve made some good friends. Come a long way.
The year in review. The condensed version.
I griped about stuff.
Swore off crappy little freebie toys. Mostly.
Got a shout out from Huffington Post blogger Liz Gumbinner of Mom-101.com (and of Cool Mom Picks) on her 2009 end of year list. I’m #45.
Now, you know that since I’m reviewing my new purse, I had to use that title. There was just no other!
It was an odd thing, I had been searching for a purse that would carry my stuff around, like any other woman. But if you knew me, you’d know that I only started really carrying a purse over the past year. And a tiny one at that! But stuff multiplies in a purse, as we all know. I was looking around in stores, trying to find something that fit my needs but wasn’t plastic looking, too expensive, or made in China. Tall order for a purse these days. I had seen Earth Divas on Twitter and checked out there website, and WOW! I loved their
stuff! And here’s the odd part – not long after, Heather Levin reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to review a bag. Would I?! Yes, please!
I’m on vacation, but that doesn’t mean I really ever rest. Tried to play Monopoly today with the family and I cleaned in between my turns. I can never sit for any length of time, unless it’s on a beach. Then I am a lounger extraordinaire, with my old white sheet, beach towels, icy cold water, beach snacks and beach reads. I even sleep well on the beach. If you have been reading my blog, you know I deal with sleep issues. But on the beach, a hot sunny afternoon – zzzzzz. Like drugs!
Anyway, I’m on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, where we vacation every summer for 1-2 weeks. We have a place here but it gets rented out most of the time. My husbands parents have been coming to the island since the 1970′s, and spend April through October here. The kids love sharing their vacation with their Papa & Nana, and their aunt, uncle and cousins come out too. It’s a big family affair!
This morning, as I pulled out a glass bottle of milk from a local dairy, Crescent Ridge (small batch milk and a promise never to give their cows antibiotics, and it tastes yummy!) my little girl asked me to tell her again about happy chickens and happy cows.
I’ve been trying to teach my children, in small doses, why I have been moving our family to more organic foods, away from added chemicals that we just don’t need. (Confession: it helps assuage my guilt over the fact that they don’t eat much variety if I give them organics) A good example of this is the homemade chocolate syrup I make. Organic cocoa powder, organic sugar, vanilla, dash of salt, and some water. That’s it. It makes a pint of chocolate syrup that tastes delish and lasts a long time in the fridge. I used my pint up over the course of five weeks and it was still good. Why do so many companies add so much shit to their products?
First of all – please pardon my page while it gets updated. There, that’s out of the way!
