If you read this blog, you know how frustrated I get trying to get my kids to eat a better variety of healthy foods, especially vegetables. My kids really aren’t bad about junky food, they just have such a limited number of foods that they will allow to pass their lips, especially vegetables that are – gasp! – green. I thought you would enjoy a good giggle at this Xtranormal animated short I created to vent. If you haven’t seen the Mompetition videos on YouTube, then you are in for a treat, check those out as well.

Without further ado…

Life for a Midwife at Dancing Rabbit EcoVillage

I’d like you to meet Alyssa, a midwife at the Dancing Rabbit EcoVillage in Missouri. She and her family, as well as all the members of the community there, lead a life truly dedicated to doing more with less, making do with what they have, and enjoying the process of passing on their love of a simpler life to the next generation.

A Mother, Midwife and Community member at
Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage

I am a mother, a midwife and a community member at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage. Actually, maybe I am a community member, a mother and and then midwife.  Whatever the order, at any given time my life is certainly rich and full. I feel fortunate to have chosen a lifestyle that allows me to work, play and parent in a more sustainable way.

Are you about to give birth to your first baby? It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? You are getting bombarded from all sides about what you should and should not do when you bring this baby home. What you should or should not buy for it, should or should not feed it…oy vey! Too much!

Let’s start simple. Not too much to take in, but here are some basics that are a really easy starting point to get your baby off to a healthier, greener life. It is so important that these little babies get the right start, and minimizing the amount of chemicals and plastics they are exposed to is vital.  Little changes do add up, for better or for worse.

I want to add that baby bottles made from glass are the best first choice for feedings AFTER breast feeding.  No need to leech plastic toxins into our babies through plastic baby bottles.

Today I’m featuring a guest post from Lauren Dzuris on the subject.

Let’s kick off the week with a guest post by Alisa Gilbert on being eco-friendly, not an eco-snob.  You know who you are. We know who you are.

It seems that we have a lot to learn when it comes to convincing the masses that going green is a worthy lifestyle change. After all, despite being barraged by numerous irrefutable facts on the benefits of switching to man-powered or public transportation, buying organic produce, using reusable shopping bags, and reducing waste in general, a great deal of the public still will not integrate green practices into their own lives. The blame here may not actually lie with materialism and laziness, but rather with the green movement itself or in particular, with the eco-snobbery associated with the green movement’s most outspoken advocates.

I don’t love Halloween. I know, I know, aren’t I weird? And up here in New England, people just love them some Halloween.  My mom, a devout born-again Christian, wouldn’t let us participate in the whole hoopla, with the reason being that it celebrates the devil. Of course it does! Didn’t you know that?

Don’t get me wrong, I am a pumpkin-loving, crunch in the leaves, pass the warm mulled cider kind of gal. I just don’t go for costumes, decorating, or the whole candy-collection march.

But if you are gonna do it, why not try to make it a GREEN Halloween?  Today’s post comes from a previous guest poster, Louise Baker (Five Essential iPhone Apps For Green Moms).  She’s outlined some simple tips that aren’t difficult to put together and won’t leave you feeling guilty after All Hallow’s Eve is nothing but a cavity.
