Carapelli Organic Olive Oil Giveaway

This contest is now closed.

I’ve had quite a few companies reaching out to me lately to try and review a product  on Live Green Mom.  More often than not, I would rather just give the product away to a reader. Most companies are amenable to that, so… let’s give something away!

I love olive oil, use it for everything! I try and buy organic when I can, there is usually a good deal at Trader Joe’s on it or a decent coupon floating around.  I like Carapelli organic olive oil, it has a smooth yet robust flavor that goes well with anything I pair it with.

How about Equal Exchange Fairly Traded Chocolates?

If you hear words like “fair trade” and “equal exchange” and wonder what exactly that is, let me tell you. As defined by Etica Fair Trade.com, “Fair Trade is responsible commerce that takes into consideration the value of all people, from the producer to the consumer. The producer group agrees to provide good working conditions, safety procedures and adequate health standards for all workers.” That means that all the way from the workers in the fields picking those coffee & cacao beans to the producer bagging the beans, to everyone else involved in the production of that product until it gets to you. By choosing Equal Exchange fairly traded products, you help provide small-scale farmers the resources and opportunities they need to build a better future for their families and communities.

If you read this blog, you know how frustrated I get trying to get my kids to eat a better variety of healthy foods, especially vegetables. My kids really aren’t bad about junky food, they just have such a limited number of foods that they will allow to pass their lips, especially vegetables that are – gasp! – green. I thought you would enjoy a good giggle at this Xtranormal animated short I created to vent. If you haven’t seen the Mompetition videos on YouTube, then you are in for a treat, check those out as well.

Without further ado…

Are you about to give birth to your first baby? It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? You are getting bombarded from all sides about what you should and should not do when you bring this baby home. What you should or should not buy for it, should or should not feed it…oy vey! Too much!

Let’s start simple. Not too much to take in, but here are some basics that are a really easy starting point to get your baby off to a healthier, greener life. It is so important that these little babies get the right start, and minimizing the amount of chemicals and plastics they are exposed to is vital.  Little changes do add up, for better or for worse.

I want to add that baby bottles made from glass are the best first choice for feedings AFTER breast feeding.  No need to leech plastic toxins into our babies through plastic baby bottles.

Today I’m featuring a guest post from Lauren Dzuris on the subject.

If you know me, you know that feeding my kids is one of the biggest challenges for me as a parent. My kids get along for the most part. They could use some lessons in table manners, sure.  But feeding them? Don’t get me started! It is expensive enough to buy organic meats, cheeses, milk, etc, but when they outright reject what I serve? I lose my sh*t.  My 6 year old boy takes one look at the dish in front of him, and instead of fighting me on it (“If I don’t see you at least eating some of what is on your plate, you can go straight to bed, mister! I will not listen to you cry & moan over this meal!”) he will say “OK, I’m going to bed. Good night.” And he will head upstairs, brush his teeth, and go to bed. I am not exaggerating. This has happened more than once. Of course, then he is up at 5 am, hungry.
