I Love Flatbread Pizza!

I’m on vacation, but that doesn’t mean I really ever rest. Tried to play Monopoly today with the family and I cleaned in between my turns. I can never sit for any length of time, unless it’s on a beach. Then I am a lounger extraordinaire, with my old white sheet, beach towels, icy cold water, beach snacks and beach reads. I even sleep well on the beach. If you have been reading my blog, you know I deal with sleep issues. But on the beach, a hot sunny afternoon – zzzzzz. Like drugs!
Anyway, I’m on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, where we vacation every summer for 1-2 weeks. We have a place here but it gets rented out most of the time. My husbands parents have been coming to the island since the 1970′s, and spend April through October here. The kids love sharing their vacation with their Papa & Nana, and their aunt, uncle and cousins come out too. It’s a big family affair!
It isn’t always easy to find family friendly places out here that aren’t going to break the bank. I was thrilled to find a new pizza place just down the street from us called Flatbreads. They are a chain, since they have 10 locations in the Northeast, Maui, and in Canada. I don’t always love chains, because the food tends to have a sameness that gets dull after a while. But! have a huge brick oven and make these super thin pizzas and delightful salads with local ingredients! Salad greens from Morning Glory Farms, one of my favorite places to go for fresh island produce. Flatbreads make their own sausage right on the premises. Their menu is 90% organic, can’t complain about that. It was all so good! My kids wolfed down their cheese pizza, and my salad, with its homemade vinaigrette made from island berries, was perfection. Our sausage and mushroom pizza, with island basil & oregano,

was filled with rich flavor without being a huge doorstop of crust & cheese. I’m not exaggerating. Divine! They recycle, and offer organic sodas like root beer, which is refreshingly ice cold after a hot afternoon on the beach. You can eat in, of course, take out, or take & bake, bring home your own to bake in your oven at your convenience.
Flatbreads is such a score for Martha’s Vineyard. I can get behind a restaurant that uses local, organic ingredients, tastes fresh & delicious, and is reasonably priced. Green light from Live Green Mom!
